Wondering if anyone can shed some light on the Fortmans left hand safety conversions that are available from Midway for the remington 870.
First question is does anyone know who sells this kit in Canada?
Second question is the kit the same for 12 and 20 gauge? I would imagine it is, but Im uncertain.
Third question is has anyone done the conversion with this kit (or any other kit or method) and if so, how did it work out for you?

Cheers

I have a left hand safety button on my rh 20 ga model 870. Uncle Mikes used to sell them and it is very easy to install. If memory serves it was the same part for all models of shotguns and the pump and semi rifles. I am not familiar with the kit you are asking about or availability in Canada. I am seriously thinking of switching back to right hand as this is the only shotgun I have with a lh safety and I have to be constantly reminding myself that it is lh. If Icould only find my rh button I would be all set. Good luck.

I am a left handed shotgun shooter and I own several Ithaca M37s. The LH retrofit safety has been available for decades. However I refuse to buy one/mount one, on my factory shotguns. Because I fear this could create confusion and possibly lead to a discharge of a shotgun when it was not intended.
I would rather lose the occasional game animal due to improper grip rather then risk anyone's safety, be it tomorrow or years down the line when my shotguns outlive me.

my two bits only

I will agree with you on your logic, but the gun is for a new shooter who just turned 13. This 870 is just a gun for him to use until he's large enough to get full size gun, which he'll have a say on what he likes or not. Once that point comes, the gun will be converted back to RH saftey for the reason you mentioned

Thanks for the info..i suspect the retrofit safety you have is likely the same style as the one im looking for. If you do find your safety and convert your gun back to RH, I'd be willing to buy your retrofit safety!
