Couple of questions for you fine people;

1) what is the shortest length barrel I can put on my 870? I have a Blackhawk telecoping 6-position stock if that makes a difference in what barrel length I can run

and

2) where can I find said barrels? Found a 12.5 at one of the site sponsors so far.

Thanks in advance,

J

12.5 is as short as you can go unless you shorten the mag tube and get a shorter foreend assembly..... I think you will be fine for overall length with your stock and a 12.5" barrel but you could allways measure that your self with what you have in front of you.
The barrels go in about a half inch from the end of the receiver.

8.5" barrels at Dlask Arms on Annacis Island, BC, and 12.5" and 14" are also available. To get the full power from a buckshot load or slug you need 14" of barrel...12.5" isn't too far below that but 8.5" seriously compromises the power of the shells.

Have you guys tried to mount an 8.5 on a stock 870?
It seems like the OP has vanished but it sure sounds like he just wants to slap a short barrel on an 870 that he already owns...not going to happen below 12.5"

Hey guys, been away from the computer for a couple days. Yes, I have a stock 870 so the 8.5 would be too short. Sounds like the 12.5 is about as short as I can take it. thanks for the suggestions. Looking into the Dlask barrel and the Dominion arms 12.5 as well.

I went to Dlask Arms and looked at both the 12.5 and 14" barrels, and since I wanted to carry my 870 in my rear quad box and backpack and use it for both protection AND to shoot the grouse I came across at closer ranges, I went with the 14" and had them make me one with a brass bead. It works fine with the bead for protection, but the bead also lets me shoot grouse in season...the blade front sight would cover the bird up and is only good for close up bear defence. The 12.5" was too short for accurate sighting on a grouse at a bit of distance, AND it takes 14" of barrel for a 3" buckshot or slug shell to reach it's full power/FPS. Since the 14" still fit in my quad box, the choice was a no brainer. Just wanted to give you some food for thought...cheers!

Just checked out Dlask. Currently sold out of their 12.5/14" 870 barrels. So I guess its just a waiting game.

I just got a 14'' from Dlask for my 870. I had it threaded for chokes and it makes a sweet bush gun. As far as aiming I have the thick front blade and it works well. I was afraid it would obscure my target but it is the perfect height. If I line up the top of blade with the top of the receiver POI is on top of the blade at 25 yards.

I also had to wait for 2 months for one so get your name on the list if you can lol.
