I'm thinking of picking up a Remington 870 compact for my girlfriend as a gift and I'm wondering if anybody has anything good or bad to say about theirs, or any better alternatives.
Thanks!

I agree let her pick what she wants gift certificate eh!

Buy her something that fits. Lots of women shoot 12's. Unless she is smaller than a 12 year old girl she doesn't need a compact gun.

Sounds like a good choice.The 20 gauge is pretty good.I have 1,20 gauge an 3 ,12 gauge shotguns.For Pheasants,Grouse etc I always turn to the 20.

I bought a 20ga 870 "Youth" (laminate stock) for my 12 year old daughter to shoot, and it's a good fit. We looked at the compact, and it would have been OK...but I know I'd have been looking for longer length of pull within a year. This shotgun has been fantastic so far, not a single issue. I recommend it.

Thanks for the input all. I let her fire my full size auto 5 and she found it far too long and a little recoil heavy. She has a compact 10/22 that fits her fairly well, so I figured the remi might be a good fit. Anybody still sell the compact laminate?

I'm a lady and like mine better than I thought I would for 3-gun competition. I'm happy to shoot something that actually fits right! I see more youth sized guns in my future. Not the nicest looking gun but it's smoother and more reliable then my 870 in 12 gauge.
