Remington 870 Defender (18") question

nice video sxyglock17 :mrgreen: I just got an 870 synth. 18.5. I am going to have to copy you, and see if the old farts at the club will get upset if I shred a few pumkins, it is the season after all :twisted: .
 
Just be sure to keep your targets low. I got in a bit of #### cause the slug could deflect at an upwards angle after going through the pop/bottle and head over the backstop. I was told to keep my pop bottles on the ground right in front of the berm.
 
I've got a 20" with remchokes on a 870 magnum reciever with a recoil reducing compstock for serious shooting, and an 18" with pachmyr pistol grip for fun. I don't find it boring at all. I found having a comfortable pistol grip really made the difference between "fun" and "masochism" during longer range sessions though. ;)

I just bought the military/ police version of the mossberg, Ive had all of them and this one is tops, forged receiver,ghost ring sites, METAL TRIGGER GROUP,metal safety, extra thick barrel,its not a plain 590, this is the 590a1, very very nice and smooth, the slide disconnect is in a way better position than on the 870 and so is the safety.it is so much better quality than my new 870 express.It was $469 at wholesale sports

If you have ever flushed up a grouse and walked in after it into some bush, you will understand that the short barrel is a real advantage as you don't find yourself swinging into trees. Try it sometime the 18' barrel is great as the radius is greatly reduced in thick brush.
But before you get all excited about buying a gun just to see that you like it. Buy a used regular barrel and cut it down. All you need is a hacksaw and it still remains legal. There are a lot of optional sites availible to install.
I can't beleive what a spare barrel is worth from remmington for the 870. I think it's highway robbery.

That 18 foot barrel must be quite something! j/k :lol:

I think I'd better point out that cutting a barrel shorter is only legal as long as it doesn't go below 18.5" in length. That extra half inch won't bother you as a shooter, but means the difference between a legal non restricted shotgun and manufacturing a prohibited device...
