remington 870 express magazine?

so i recently had my 870 express modified to accept a magazine extension (filing down the insides of the magazine)
gunsmith guy said since there were some dimples inside of the gun were removed, which held the cap on the end of the stock magazine on, im now no longer able to use that cap and must stay with the extended magazine attached.

well i tried to take off that magazine extension and attach the old magazine cap on, and it seems to have fit just fine.
what i'm wondering is, is if there may be any issues with that which i may not be aware of (like the rounds and the spring falling out due to the cap not fitting like it did before the modification)
 
The dimples were used to hold the plastic spring retainer underneath the steel screw on cap. You will be fine running it this way just going to have to watch when you remove the cap from now on as the spring will fly out once cap is removed.
 
thanks for the input, will keep in mind to check the mag caps when i do switch it back, as i only intend to do it when i take the gun out to go hunting, otherwise i'd keep it with the mag extension on
