Not sure how to word this correctly, so apologies up front.

On a 12" barreled 870 does a standard run of the mill forend fit ?...IE no modifications , as I understand the 8" versions have a smaller forend

I have an opportunity to switch out the ugly plastic on a Dominion Arms12" mag fed gun with some outstanding Wingmaster wood but I remember reading that the Rings on the barrels are in a different place on the short guns due to the mag tube being shorter.

Thanks in advance for any guidance

The 12.5” DA Grizzly uses a normal length forend tube, on some the fit is tight as the metal tube is a #### hair bigger in outer dia. Some filing or sanding of the inside of the forends tube is needed to let it slip on and off. The 8.5” is the shorter one, any standard 870 forend will fit the 12.5” forend assembly.

You will notice a big weight reduction once the DA plastic stock is gone, the buttstock is a bloddy boat anchor. The mag fed versions are already heavier than normal so it’s a smart swap.

Did the swap from plast3i to wood today.
The forend is too long, it was off an Express, not a Wingmaster like I had hoped.
I had hoped.
I had to cut 2" off the end closet to the reciever and file it out to make the Grizzly tube fit.
I hate the gun, just recieved it today and listed it for sale.
Its built like a tank and is small enough for a good camp gun, keep the magazines loaded and pop them on when you need 2

Perhaps, i bought it used.

That’s the standard one, not the newer production one. I get why you had to cut down the forend, it hit the magwell I would expect when you tried to open the action all the way? What do you hate about it, I’ve had one for years now and it works well. I dropped a bunch of grouse with it two seasons back.
