hello gents...
my friend lost the bolt from his Rem870 Express Magnum....3" chamber...
I tried to find one to replace, but was told that another bolt WILL NOT FIT, needs to be sent to Remington to fit new bolt (head space issue)....
is it true???? I can buy a new barrel and just put it my gun with NO HEAD SPACE ISSUE, but cannot put a new bolt?????

please advise....really need your help:confused: :runaway:
best regards
Kot

I would ask Western Gun Parts in Edmonton. It doesn't sound correct to me. 870 parts are interchangeable between guns in the field. (2 & 3/4 and 3 inch)

That was a selling feature when they first came out. A Remington Rep demonstrated how you could take any 870's in the rack and disassemble them, mix the parts up and reassemble them with no fitting of parts. You could not do that with a Winchester Model 12.

For bolts, ask on the EQUIPMENT EXCHANGE here . Also goto www.ebay.ca search and watch "gun parts" located in Canada. By doing the located in Canada thing you avoid the U.S. export/import permit thing.

I am a Remington Warranty Repair Centre. There SHOULD be no problem putting in a new breech bolt. They are all the same (within tollerances). Headspace on the 870 is a factor of the breech bolt, the locking block (resides within the breech bolt) and the barrel. To be 100 per cent sure, after installing or changing any of these parts, you should check headspace. I realize most people do not check when they exchange barrels. I do.

870 Bolt

Remington bolts for the Express are either for the 3 inch gun or the new 3 1/2 inch gun, there is a difference. You should be able to purchase a 3 inch bolt and install it without trouble, if you are experiencing extraction troubles then yes you have a headspace issue (usually to tight) this can be repaired by your gunsmith. Bollocks!

Another bolt will fit (from the same model and gauge).
