So I'm looking to purchase for my first shotgun, between the Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500, 12gauge. I will mainly be using it for waterfowls, also budget is 700$. Any advise would be greatly appreciated .Thanks

Wingmaster or Mossberg 500. Try them and see which fits you and you like the most. I have both if that helps. Mossbergs and used Wingmasters are the best deal today.

It's the same as a Chev vs Ford argument. Whatever one fits you and your budget will be the best. If you find either on sale, go for it.

Personally i like the Mossberg tang safety better than the Rem trigger safety, but that's a minor thing that you can get used to either way. I assume Rem has the same, but you can get the Mossberg combo's with 2 or 3 barrels for not much more than the gun itself with 1 barrel, which increases the use of the gun without getting a second gun.

the mossburg 500, or an older wingmaster, the new remington 870s got cheap........ not worth it anymore, buy what fits best though, handle alot of guns, even look into a weatherby pa08

i personaly have the 870 and my biddy has a 500, both shoot good, both eject good, and both shoulder good, pick which one you like the looks of or which one will be easier to clean or which one fits in your current long gun bag better. The differences are minimal

Remington 870 Express Trio - three barrels (28" vented rib, 18.5" turkey, and cantilever 22" fully rifled) $542+ tax from Lebaron. How can you go wrong?

I have fired many a Remington in my day. Most recently my brother purchased the mossberg with the 2 barrels. It felt good but I want to use the word plasticy if that makes any sense. My son preferred the mossbsrg over the old Steven Savage. I like the Ford vs Chevy analogy for sure. It'll boil down to your needs and preferences both a great. Me personally I would go Remington

I am a total new comer to firearms but have spent a lot of time handling them in stores trying to decide which is to be my first. I really like the Winchester shotguns.

Thanks all for the advices. So for my first buy went with the 870 , it just felt more comfort handling it then the 500. again many thanks

I'm so familiar with the Remington that I'd have a hard time recommending against it. I've had 3 different 870s and they've all been great guns. For upland hunting with a pump I'd probably choose my Ithaca 37 because it's lighter, but for waterfowl the extra weight of the 870 would soak up the recoil from high volume shooting better. I'm a low-percentage waterfowler...shoot lots and hit few.
