ive seen people pick up something like a standard stocked 870 and hold them in the wierdest ways - one chick shouldered an 870 like a bazooka

I have nothing against pistol grips, and I completely agree that it allows a natural orientation of the arm, and usually eliminates the "chicken wing" that all noobies adopt.
I just found that with most pistol grips, they don't allow for a good cheek weld. Nothing turns new shoters away like a cheek slap from a 12 guage.

i would never let someone do that. i actually get really angry when i see youtube vids like this:

i have reduced recoil 2 3/4" loads (and more recently that knoxx stocked 20 gauge i posted a pic of earlier) if they want to shoot a shotgun, but first i usually let them shoot a few boxes of .22 LR from a 10lb 10/22T
theres no recoil to worry about so they can concentrate on form.
