I have been doing quite a bit of research and so far I have been unsuccessful in finding out a good sling system for a Remington 870. So I figured I would turn to the forums and see if someone out there could be some help.

So, what have you guys done to attach a sling to your 870?

I'm leaning towards a 2 point sling system rather than a 1 point, but regardless links/pictures would be a great plus as it would cut down my time trying to find a 2 point system.

Thanks,

I'm going to go with a single point sling for my Fabarm. I am going to use a S&J Hardware SPSM but have not figured what sling to mate it to. Something that can be converted from a Single point to a two point system would be cool. But I don't know if such a thing exists.

I think it all depends on what you are going to be doing with it. I wish I new all the ins and out of each, but sadly I don't. Maybe someone else can fill us in.

I've looked at the sling adapters that S&J Hardware carries and from what I have gathered is that they are for one point slings.

I guess I should also note that I have a full stock, if that's what it is called, and would like to keep that set up if possible. So if you have any ideas of adapters that fit onto a full shotgun stock it would be greatly appreciated.

BB, can you tell us what you want to use it for?
I've tried a whole bunch of different 870 field slings/types with mixed results and it really depends on what the intended use and barrel length of your gun is.

Cheers

Just finished a Fighting Shotgun course. Most people had a single point sling - those with Rem 870's had a S&J Hardware sling mount.

I had a Fabarm and had a S&J Slingmount as well as the front sling mount with a 2 pt Vicker's Sling... that worked pretty well. I also have a Blueforce Anaconda single pt sling on my Rem 870 with the S&J sling mount.

I suppose if you wanted a two point on a Rem 870 you could get a sling mount that would go on the front of the mag tube and then the S&J unit... Don't know which one I prefer... if I had to pick I'd go for the two point sling. Easier to get off if required...

I use a Tactical Tailor universal single point sling, purchased from Daves Surplus.

$30 or so and you are good to go on a traditional stock...no adaptor required.

well where so i start.
lets start withthe slings.
If you want a sling that has the best chance to do everything, and by that im talking about 1 point 2 point set up.
The 3 point sling set up is dead! to much going on with a 3 point.
The best sling one the market for 1 and 2 point is the SOC sling from blue force gear.
http://www.sjhardware.com/Blue.html
This sling with the right adaptors which we allso sell will let you keep the sling on the gun in a 2 point set up and change it to a 1 point in seconds.
It like all BFG sling are so well made you will never need to buy another sling.
for the full on tactical roll or someone thats carrying a short shotgun just for bear then a single point sling set up is the best, its allways there and no matter what happens its allways at hand, if you had to take the gun off the sling ASAP just hit the button and its off, for this set up i would use the BFG anaconda sling and the SOC and my #2.
If you looking for an all around set up , i would say one of our S&J single point sling mounts and a wilson front side sling mount we sell both retail price is $45 and $15 but free shipping for CGN members.
some pics and a video for you

Sweet thanks for the links badboybeeson.

I am mainly going to use my 870 for turkeys, and snow geese. I also am running a 28" barrel.

With a 28" barrel you are really limited to a 2 point. You can forget 1 and 3 point sling right away. Like BBB says, 3 points are way too many straps and the 1 point will have your barrel in the mud.

You could go with a standard 2 point hunting sling to carry the gun on your back or if you want it in front of you horizontally then something like the 'Safari Sling' would probably work.

As for attachmetn points you could use the standard sling studs or if you want to go more complicated use the styles (GG&G. Dlask, Wilson Combat, sjhardware etc) that mount between the rear of the receiver and the stock (burnsed loops) and also the front sling mounts that sit behind the mag cap...this will allow the gun to sit flatter to you with one side against your back (did that make sense?)

Cheers

Can someone point me to a link where I can start right at the beginning on this subject? I don't even know the difference between 1, 2, 3 point slings. I am interested in the best sling and form of carry for bear defense. I have read about the American carry vs. the African carry, my biggest worry is easy and reliable grabbing for surprise charges from furry critters.

I have several really nice slings and none of them will fit on my DA Grizzly - the sling points are really small and everything I have is too big to fit through the 'loops'.

Okay, so I have decided to go with a two-point sling, the only problem is that my 870 synthetic stock does not have a stock stud. Any ideas? Or do I just have to buy a new stock with a stud?
