I have a 870 special field with a 21" vented rib barrel with rem chokes, can I shot steel shot from thei barrel or is it lead only, thanks.

Had one. Steel shot is fine. Same as any other Rem barrel.

Normally, if it's a fixed choke, it's MOD. Mine had a custom threaded choke setup, but shot steel out of it a lot... nice hunting gun!

yes you can shoot steel as you have the rem choke system. i have one of these guns and they are a delight to use . only problem with the one i had is my daughter got to pick a gun from my small collection as a gift and it is her gun now .most people do not know they exist and in my opinion they are one of the best 870 guns out there. make sure you use one of the open chokes as if you use a too tight choke you may damage the barrel. you only are required to use shot other than lead when you are waterfowl hunting and there are other options than steel that are legal and in my opinion are much better .look for waterfowl loads other than steel if you are going to a tighter choke and if you are not waterfowl hunting there is no use using it .barrels for the 870 field are hard to come by and they are a beautiful gun so look after it . if you haven't guessed by now i dislike steel shot.
