Hello all. A short while back a picked up a old 70's i believe 870 wingmaster. I bought it with the intent to convert it to a tactical look for a cheap cost. Having one difficlulty, I am unable to remove the forend cover from the actual pump piece tube. I've completely disassembled the gun and have removed the threaded piece of the tube on the forend and the tube should just slide out of the forend, but it is either in there really tight or is glued. Considering either buying a new steel tube and forks (not sure of real name) for my new forend cover, or cutting the old forend cover off the old tube. Hopeing that someone has a idea how to remove the old cover without damaging and save myself from buying a new one. Thank you all.

What has happened is that the wood forend has shrunk and is tight against the metal forend tube.
Having done what you are about today 100,s of times I can tell you you more then likely will have to cut it off.
Only times I try to save the wood is if its a nice high grade walnut.
But try this. Completly soke the forend in oil, with the idea to get oil in between the metal and wood.
Leave for a day then take a rubber hammer and thick cloth and try to knock it off.
Do not twist,do not try and clamp the metal forend

As bad boy said likely shrunk or somebody glued it in the past. If they did use accraglass or similar try putting in the freezer for a day or two. Then follow above instuctions for removal, with cutting probably being the result.

Thanks guys i will try that. I also have a dremil in mind. If i cut a shallow groove i think it should just split with the grain.
