maybe a stupid question,

if i buy a new remington shotgun, i think it is caled a model 870 express synthetic 18"
can i opt for a 18"/20" sighted deer barrel? also what is the monetary damage on that and what company would be a good choice to contact?

Yup, all 870 barrels are interchangeable so long that they are for the right receiver i.e. 2&3/4" or 3" etc. Brand new you're looking at $400-500 for an express these days but on the EE you can get one below $400.

i appreciate the reply. i new you can switch barrels. was wondering if you order a new express shotgun from a dealer can you get a 18"/20" sighted deer barrel instead of the 18" beaded sight? never bought a shotgun, except single or double barrel.
or better yet, is there a actual police type remington? if so what is it called, so i can ask the dealer, and ball park cost?

You don't have to buy a Remington made barrel. Gobles have or did have 870 barrels that are far less expensive. Bought one(rifle sighted) a few years back for under $200. Lousy web site. Add the W's. .gobles.ca/Main.html
