Remington 870p?

Hey guys. I use a remington 870p at work, and to keep things simple I am considering getting one as an all-round shotgun. What I would like to know is if the 870p will take barrels from other 870's, so that I could use it for deer and turkey hunting (obviously I would have to plug the magazine for hunting)?

Anyhoo, if any of you folks know the answer to this I would appreciate your input. Thanks again.

Why not buy a wingmaster or express? It doesn't really get much simpler or more similar then the various 870 models, all the controls are the same.

I can get a pretty good deal on the p model. It seems to be a bit more robust than the express and I can get it for less than I could get a wingmaster.

The Special Purpose barrels have a finish that will match the Parkerizing on your 870P. The Wingmaster ones are the same thing, but with a gloss blue finish.

Express barrels will fit, but they have no ball detent on the barrel lug to retain the magazine cap, as the Express models use a different system to retain the endcap and magazine plug. You would either have to have the detent fitted or use blue Loctite to secure the cap.

The only barrel that would not fit at all is one from an 870 Special Field. These guns have an extra short magazine tube.

The only drawback with the 870P for hunting is its heavier trigger pull. It's an easier fix however. Just replace the sear spring.
