Boyds Pro-Varmint stock is what my cousin who has MS has just bought I think

the front action screw is too those ton this stock compared to the one we did on his cheote stock

I used the rear action screw on the front action hole for the Boyd’s stock and it was too long by about 1/4 inch

so does anyone have a link to the length of the action screws that I can buy

then I can measure the current action screws that are too short and see if they will fit

OR

what is the thread on the remington so I can go to the local auto parts store and buy stainless steel screws a little long and trim them

it is a short action

thanks I was just visiting him and it is an hour away from me, did not have any calibers handy and it was just as we were leaving for turkey dinner to another friends place

are they 1/4 by 28 by 2 inches long and then I trim them

what is 1/4 by 28 is that fine thread or metric?

Thanks jeff

Yes, they are 1/4 x 28 tpi…..

You didn’t mention which bottom metal you were using (upgraded versions are everywhere) and therefore I’m assuming you are employing the factory bottom metal once again. Tapered interface, that’s why. Aftermarket bottom metal units seem to employ the use of socket cap screw heads.

The tapered factory units are available from Gravel Agency in QC. Their online purchasing software is very easy to use. Factory screws in blued or stainless are available. You might have to do some creative ‘cutting’ and ‘trimming’ to achieve your end goal.

I used to sell many, many sets of socket caps screws that required at least a trim of about 2 threads when using aftermarket bottom metal units like Badger Ordnance or AtlasWorks from Australia. I can send you a couple of screws in both lengths to do some trail machining/trimming/tapering if you would like but that’s a longer stretch/solution.

Have a look at my offerings….
