Lately I've been thinking of keeping an eye out for a nice older remington bolt action .22.

I'm aware of the 40x series and they're way above my price point, so I'm curious what other model numbers I should keep an eye out for.

I'm not totally sure why I feel like a remington specifically, those cz45x series are really nice rifles and I have a cz513 at the moment that shoots great, but there's something about a nice older remington in a nice walnut stock that seems to be stuck in my head.

I should point out that peep sighted rifles are not for me, so the rifle will have to be easily scoped.

Any info would be appreciated

Hard to find but the 541 models were pretty sweet rifles in my opinion. Beautiful walnut. Nice checkering. Just an awesome rifle. They had a run of heavy barrel versions from the mid to late 90s.

Like the Remington older bolt actions very much. Have two 788s, one in 222 and another in 308.
But never could stumble upon a 541 model at the right time with cash in hand.

Scratched that itch eventually with a Mauser ES350B single shot bolt action.
If I had not gone down this road, I strongly suspect I would have bought a bolt & repeating CZ Lux in 22LR.

If really flush with mulla, I might have gone the way of a Kimber Super America. (40X are beauty too!) That was not to be though.....

I found a Brazil made Remington Model 525 the other day. No extractors! Hope I can find some and put the old thing back into action.

I still have my 581 and a 591. Too bad the 5mm didn't survive. Hopefully, the 17 HMR will stay.

I owned a 581 for many years, and then a 541S, which was very accurate. I spent several years looking for a 40X Sporter Repeater, but couldn't find one for sale in Canada at any price.

I have both 541s and 541t. They are beautiful guns. Rem. built a piece of art the stuck a pos mag. in it. The 5 Rd mags work great the 10s wear out and split easy. I left the Rem at home this year when I went south to do high volume gopher shooting. The guns come up at shows once in a while, $6-800 seems to be the norm. A T sold at a small show local for $400, a steal of a deal.

The Remington 504's were never very popular but they are well built and have a massive and rigid reciever.
I had a Sporter and a "T" heavy barrel at one time. The 504T shot well but the Sporter was pretty mediocre.

just as an aside remark there were gunsmiths converting model 581's to 22 hornet. apparently this was the only rimfire you could do this to. dropped the ball on that one. this was back in the 80's. just thought you guys would appreciate a little trivia.
