I have to enquire with the group about the Remington cantilevers. I have had my own experience and I have witnessed my friends go through theirs. I say they are garbage and have had it with Remington products in general to the point where I am getting rid of all my Remington products except for my great Uncle's Model 30 which I have restored.
Do these cantilevers lose their strength and bend on their own after so many shots? I have had 2 cantilever rifled barrels for my 870 and both have been nightmares and had to sell the barrel or take it back to the store...…..after running $$$$$ worth or sabots through them.
I apologize if this has already been a discussion previously but.....this is new to me and I previously loved the Remington brand but after multiple times being disappointed with the product I have said "enough is enough". I have had 2 shotgun deer seasons tainted by this gun manufacturer and where I am in Ontario I get 6 days to get a shot at a deer. 6 Days and that's all.
This year 4 of us in our camp have remingtons(I will refuse to use an upper case R from now on referring to remington). 3 of the 4 have all had issues surrounding the cantilever on the 870s and one 1187. All 3 had the cantilever bend, sloping forward, after a few shots. 2 of us are selling our guns, and 1 traded his gun in for another 870 cantilever......and the "gunsmith" took the old gun and put it in a vice to bend the cantilever back down.
Are these cantilever barrels just garbage? Is there a systemic problem with the design of all cantilevers?
I have kissed goodbye to this season as far as being able to use a rifled barrel for deer. A Winchester sxp duck gun with an improved cylinder choke will have to do.I'm already planning for next year and looking for a break-action 12 or 20 gauge rifled barrel shotgun that I can mount a scope on the barrel. Not much to go wrong there. Keep it Simple is the best policy for me.
Any thoughts...…or break-action 12 or 20 gauge rifled barreled guns for sale cheap? Don't even mention a bolt action 12 gauge please. I refuse to pay Savage $800 for a 12gauge with a bolt action.
