Doesn't Remington come with a "classic" chambering in their 700 each year ??
Last year I think it was 308 and I was wondering if anyone new what it would be this year ? I can't find it on their web site either.

It has been replaced with the limited edition .30-06; that rifle will be the new "classic" with a different chambering every year.

2006 Rem Classic = .308 Win?

I thought the 2006 Classic - the last one in the series - is a .308 Win? Seems a few gun shops in Canada are advertising them as such... Wholesale Sports, Russells, etc...

I'd Rather Have a CDL, Anyway...

Besides... whether they have a limited edition Classic this year or not, I'd rather have a spankin' new CDL in 7mm-08, anyway... ;)

I have a couple of those new CDL's, and they are mighty nice rifles! One of mine is a 270, the other a 35 Whelen. Both shoot under MOA with the right load, and I love the feel of the Mountain Rifle stock! Regards, Eagleye.

:D :D :D :) :) In fact, the 2005 "Classic" was the 308 Winchester, the 2004 "Classic" was the 8x57JS, and the 2003 "Classic" was the 300 Savage, and I have one each of the '04 and '03 issues. :D Eagleye

As 2006 is 100 years after 1906, it would make sense to have this years classic the 30-06.
Of course, this is Reminton we are talking about

Saw an online article and Remington, as usual, has some good, and bad

Model 700 CDL SF Limited in 30-06[/B]

A new limited-edition Model 700 offering from Remington, the CDL SF Limited in .30/06 Springfield, commemorates the venerable cartridge’s 100th anniversary. Its features include a stainless-steel, fluted, 24-inch-barreled action, a CDL-style stock with R3 recoil pad and an engraved commemorative floor plate. This will be the first gun in a multiyear series.

According to TB, the new "Limited" line will start out with the 30/06 in 2006.

They changed the format... no more classics... they are now called Limited Editiions.... they did this so they could chamber them in WSM without looking rediculous. You will see the 300WSM and the 270WSM in some of the first limited Editions from Remington.
This years NWTF Gun of the Year is a Remington Model 700 Presentation Grade... In 270WSM!!!!
Remingchester has another winner.:p

Eagleeye, does the new CDL still come with the J-lock? Remington doesn't say on their website, and I haven't had a chance to get out of the sticks and see one for myself yet.

x2 Sure would be nice! The .358Win. is one of the best hunting cartridges around.

As much as I agree with that statement, I doubt that Remington will chamber for the 358Win. given it's commitment to the 35Whelen and 350RemMag already.

Ok since this is all about the hijack ;) ;) I may as well get in on it :D

Anyone have a report or know someone who owns the new model 798 ?

I really like the Rem 700 classics. One I sold, which I regret was a mint 6.5x55.

Wouldn't mind having one in 7x57.

I have a Classic in 6.5x55mm & it's a keeper for sure. Been looking for one in 7x57mm for a few years without success. [Including posting a WTB on the EE a couple times...:( ]

Maybe I'll have to settle for one in 7mm-08 or failing that a spankin' new CDL in 7mm-08...;)

dragoon7214; NO J- locks on the new CDLs!!:) My Whelen has a J-lock, my 270, a more recent rifle, has none. Regards, Eagleye.
