Remington Deer Barrel

Looking at getting barrel 1 below for this deer season. Does anyone have this barrel and are you having any ejection issues or other issues? Is the scope any good? I will be using it on a 870 Wingmaster from 1975 2 3/4 inch or a 1979 3 inch. Or am I better off getting barrel 2 and buying my own scope

If the wingmaster bbl has the old school blueing you will be getting a better finish that also matches your receiver as opposed to the matte. If you want a quality scope that will withstand the recoil of the sabot slugs for years to come, you will need to shop for that separately anyway. Nikon and leupold both make good muzzle loader/shotgun scopes. The 3'' length difference between those two barrels will have little impact on performance. Your option 1 is the cheap way to go; option 2 is the better way to go.

I have an 870 SPS with the 23" fully rifled cantilever mount, but I put Leupold rings and Shotgun scope on it. No problems with ejection or otherwise. Another point with slug guns is you want EYE RELIEF! I don't know what scope you'll get with the "clampack" or how much eye relief it has.

Do you really require a slug gun? Do you reload shells? Factory shells for rifled barrel can get very expensive ($14+ for a box of 5 shell)!

The scope say's Remingtion on it. Going to call Remingtion to find out the eye relief. Been kissed by a scope once and never again. No I do not reload my own shells. Been shooting it for years and still use it up to today with the old foster type slugs with a 30 inch plain barrel full choke then I had to get it bored out to a modified choke for steel shot. I have shot a few and missed a few with this set up.

My advice would be to get a rifle if you want to hunt at longer ranges. If you have local restrictions that require the use of a shotgun, then I would use some more accurate slugs. Federal tru-ball and Brenekes come to mind. They will be more expensive and more accurate than plain foster slugs, yet cheaper than sabot slugs. I got my rifled barrel with my used 870. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend buying a rifled barrel.
