Remington Extended Chokes

I'm a first-year trap shooter who loves his trusty old Remington 1100. But it's got a 30" barrel with a fixed full choke, and I'm just starting into skeet and sporting clays with it as well, so I've decided to investigate getting my barrel rethreaded and buying some chokes for versatility.

A lot of the guys at my club (PoCo, in BC), suggest getting the extended chokes, for ease of use (and a bit more even spread, I'm told). But I can't seem to find Remington extended chokes in Canada. I've tried all the local shops and the big companies such as Cabela's and Wholesale Sports.

Before I have to order from the States, anyone know of anyplace in Canada that sells Remington extended chokes?

Were you at PoCo today? I didn't notice anyone shooting a 1100 today.... But factory Remington chokes are only so so.... Briley as mentioned above are very good... Also alscornerstore.ca carries Carlson chokes that are very good as well....

Sure I was at PoCo today. In non-online life I'm Buddy. Blue hat, lotsa jokes. I bought the donuts today.

And thanks for the tips about Carlson and Briley chokes -- I'll check them out.

Briley has done probally a dozen remington barrels for me over the years from 410 to 12ga in 870's and 1100.I love their extended chokes.Even if you find remington extended chokes in canada no gunsmith here can thread for rem choke. take care

hey

i had my barrel done some time ago. It was a 30" full choke barrel, i had it cut down to 26".

Doring the process it was first going to get Remington chokes installed but found out after they cut the barrel their was not much material on the walls of the barrel. So they had to go with a Carsol thin wall chokes. after shooting two boxes at skeet the choke did not last to long at all. In two year i had to get 2 chokes for it.

My friend got the 1100 also had the same don because of the wall of the barrel. he also had to get new chokes after some time.

i fell for my self the best option is to get a new barrel then get chokes for it.

That is a new one on me?? I know it is impossible to get a barrel threaded for rem chokes in canada but I also have probally 10 or so barrels fitted with colonial & carson thin walls and never an issue. Some of my superx1's would probally have close to 25,000 rounds through them also and were done in the mid 80's. You may have got a bad batch of tubes which again is strange but it obviuosly happened as you say..

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm first going to bring my barrel to a local gunsmith to verify that it can indeed be rethreaded, then I'm going to round up a set of Carlson chokes.

Cheers!
