Just finished a goose hunt in Elstow SK. I was trying out the Remington hyper sonic shells in 12ga, 1 1/4oz, BB, 3". I've never been annoyed by recoil before, but these shells are borderline painful. Advertised at 1700fps. No advantage over std Kent faststeel was seen.

A guy on u toob tested patterns and found the hypers were terrible compared to even the cheap steel loads for holding any sort of pattern. ( I know different brand of choke may have made a difference) But generally he could see no advantage to the loads.

I tried them when they came out and I was patterning my SBE at the time, the pattern held to 30yds with it, but blew out after that. I wasn't impressed by it, and the velocity gain wasn't enough to justify any extra range ability as there isn't enough shot in them for a decent pattern for longer range.
As to recoil, 1-1/4 oz is 546gr @ 1700fps, that is not exactly a light load in a rifle either.

This is kinda' disappointing to hear... I was gonna give them a try, but on the brighter side I will be able to avoid the disappointment and the recoil....

Time to pick up some more Faststeel....

Anything Remington I have tried has not patterned well whatsoever! Im a fan of Kent myself, always shot the 3 1/2, 1 3/8 ounce stuff and tried a box of the same length, but 1 1/4 ounce, at 1625, and so far so very good. I think Ill stick with that, not even gonna try Remington!

that said... im back to plain Winchester HV 1550fps, and still kill what i can hit

I used the same ammo last weekend, the pellets blew completely through the ducks at 30 to 40 yards. And that's the 2-3/4" shells. Really, with the number of pellets hitting these teal at 35 yards and blowing through them, I should have no trouble killing birds at 50+ yards. If I can lead them properly.

Terrible

I guy i hunted with used them and i tryed them out of his Nova and they kicked like a mull. And to make it worse while he was using those Hypersonic shells his barrel bellowed half way up just after shooting 1 box of 3" #3 . Not sure if it was the gun or ammo but it he was shooting Kent Fast Steel and it never happened then. So lets just say im sticking to my Kents
