So beautiful ! Gotta love that park'ed finish !

Time to find my '70's era M1 helmet from Cyprus, hold that M40 and watch "Tour of Duty" on History Channel.

Cheers,
Barney

That M40 does look ###y. I was browzing around another forum board (which has nothing on CGN:)) and found this guy who makes stocks in the states, and thought I would share this link. http://www.richardscustomrifles.com/0108.jpg Sort of reminds me of HS precision and my remington. Now only if my action and barrel were not tan I would get that stock. I guess I would be pushing my luck for a left handed M40 :D

The M40 with the wooden stock is fantastic, I love them, but the more recent version with the McMillan and the heavier barrel and Unertl scope/base/rings, man I love that rifle.

Ah hell, I want one of each!

Rem lists the M24 also, I had found another company that was making re-pros of the M24 right down to the markings but wanted $2400.00 USD

Does any dealer import either the M40 or M24??

Have you ever compared the barrel diameter of 700P & an M40...? the M40 has a way bigger & heavier of a barrel.

IIRC the barrel contour on these ones is the same as that on the 700P (only 24" instead of the 26" on the 700P). It's the M40A1 that has the heavier (approx #7 - "straight taper") barrel contour...

Steve David is right, the M40 series is just a damn fine gun. I shot a reporduction model by Texas Brigade Armory,,,,,,,,, that didn't suck! Its the most realistic reproduction I've ever seen of the real thing. Don't know if I would dump the cash on the UNERTL scope, better stuff out there for that kind of money. Unfortunately, the gun would just not be the same without the UNERTL glass.

Now,,, there was the odd "original" UNERTL scope that hit the "Civi" market, so to speak. If a guy could find one of those, OOOOOOO MMMMAAAAAANNNNN, that I could not pass up.

The M40A3 is also a very functional rifle, the downside being that it weights in at something crazy like 19lbs. Thats a lot of bang stick to drag around.

On the plus side I think the USMC is now installing some top quality Schmidt Bender glass.

From one of my Soldier of Fortune magazine from this summer, YES! S&B PMII 3-12x?. They're(the troops) having issues converting everything metric but they love the scope.
