I'm thinking about drilling and tapping another hole in the rear receiver bridge of a M600 and M660 (later Mohawk) to allow installation of the new breed of two piece bases made for the Model 7 (since 1999). I'm not fond of the appearance of the Weaver #70 so often used.
Has anyone done this specifically with those models? Any issues or advice? Got any favorite ways to mount a scope on one of these little carbines?
I'm thinking of using Leupolds 2pc M7 bases (I checked the contour with the actual bases they seem to match well) or possibly Talley 2pc lightweights. I plan to mount either a Leupold VariX II 1x4 or a 2.5X or a Weaver 2.5x or something similar.
I did this mod on my own Rem M7 before Remington started doing it themselves at the factory. Here's a pic of my pre 99 M7/260 using weaver #35 and #36 bases I seem to remember (yes and with cheap crap rings and scope - temporary has become temporarily permanent I guess).
