anybody know anything about them., I was thinking of building a cheap 223 with a starting point of this basic remington action only,

as opposed to a custom action, (not wanting to discuss savage and so on, just remingotn action only as opposed to a sps and selling off the parts)

and does remington look at these actions before they go out or are they just pulled off the line and sent in boxes, I think they sell for 525 or so

thanks

I don't think there is any such thing as a match select factory produced 700 action. They are all mass produced and vary from action to action. Age doesn't matter. I am sure Remington do not set them up and measure run out and tolerances.

Buy the cheapest 700 you can and have a good barrel installed... true the action first for a bit better accuracy and peace of mind. Keep the original extractor system. The trigger is easily worked too.

Better yet, try and find the XR100's.

These were supposedly made FOR Rem and are a completely different animal as far as QC goes.

F class shooters in BC use a bunch of these and some have been straight out of the box.

Of course, they are still saddled with the standard tolerance in bolt vs raceway and other small niggles but overall, way nicer to build off then a generic Rem 700.

XR100's

My bet is Remington mass produced them from 2005 to 2007.... not a lot of them but right along with everything else...

Nice single shot actions... still will benefit from truing...
