Remington model 14's

Stevie, look at the top rear portion of the receiver. The *might be two tapped and plugged holes there where a Marbles 14(?) tang sight fits on. If you rifle is older like the two 25's I've posted they did not yet have the holes.

Sight makers made a sight that mounts on the curved rear of the reciever. They are peep sights of course. Mine is a Marbles and folds down, I am currently rebuilding it. Some " Gunsmith" did a real scab repair on it.

Ebay has sights for the 14 on occasion, they are very pricey. There are actually sight collectors out there.!

That's a neat looking little case Noel..
Can you form .25 Rem brass out of .30, .32, or .35 brass?

I saw a link posted recently with info on manufacture dates of older remingtons. I can't find it for the life of me. does anyone know some place I can find it? I think my gun is made around 1910,1911

Sure can, that is actually a reformed 30 Rem Dominion.;) 25-30-32 are all based on the same case. 35 is a different size and won't work for the others.;)

Not possible, they didn't start making them until 1912. PM me your serial and if it is low enough I can tell you how old roughly. Remington made batches of receivers that were not assembled at the same time they were built so it can be a guessing game at times.
If the case head ID for the cartridge indicator says only UMC only at the top, it is a 1912 MFG. If it says REM-UMC, it is 1913. Later case heads had an open port in the middle like a case with the primer popped out and the brass was proud to the receiver surface.

For later guns that have a date code stamped on the barrel go to the Remington society website, they have it all posted there.

As to the tang sights, I believe there may be a difference, my Marble catalog from 1924 should be an accurate resource.:) R7 for Model 12s and R8 for the 14's. I am torn with my rifle as I wanted an exact duplicate of Leif's gun but it wasn't until I got a better copy of his picture that I could see he has a tang sight and the wheel sight removed. Don't really want to D&T mine for the tang...
