Can anyone tell me if the parts for a remmy 58 and 1100 are interchangable? Like for instance the barrels and the stocks, and possible the innards. I believe the gas system was adjustable on the old model 58 was it not? Or are they two completely different guns, thanks.
 
Not the barrels or stocks... lots of inards exchange though ... the 11-48, 58, 870, 1100 share a bunch.
 
Guntech is correct... I just rebuilt a 58 with mostly 1100 parts. Essentially all of the receiver innards including the trigger group are compatible but not much beyond that.

There is a way that you can convert 870 barrels for use with a 58 that involves drilling two gas holes. There is a gunsmith somewhere in Ontario who has a jig for doing this (can't remember who). I understand it's a relatively simple process.

So sbound, what you are saying is that basically besides the two gas ports, the 870 barrels and the 58 barrels are essentially the same?
 
If memory serves, 870 stocks work on 58's.

The 58 had a magazine cap with two setting positions "L" for low base
or target loads ..."H" for high-base or hunting loads. Bled different amounts
of combustion gas off to work the internal piston.

To convert an 870 barrel to a 58, one has to be somewhat precise with the loacation, angle and diameter of the holes.
