I recently purchased a Remington Model 6 in 30-06 in great condition. Unfortunately it didn't come with a magazine so I had to pick up a new one. Even though the mag was new in the package and is supposed to work with my rifle it will not seat or lock in. No matter which way you try it the mag will not stay locked in the rifle. It does go "click" when inserted but I can pull the magazine out with two fingers without toughing the mag release.

Anyone experience this? Is it a flaw in the generic Remington mags or is there something on my rifle that I can adjust that I'm not seeing?

Thanks in advance.

Take a close look at the mag and how the latch grabs it once snapped in.
Maybe you can alter the slot in the mag.

This was my thinking as well. The tab on the mag doesn't seem to be very "sharp". I was skeptical of buying one of the new generic Remington mags for this reason.

Has anyone used these mags in the past with good success or is it an ongoing thing?

Thanks.

As generic as they are, they do require minor fitting. You're on the right path by looking at the mag latch tab on the new magazine. Might need a quick pass with a file to bring the mag deeper in the mag well for the mag latch to grab.

Thank for the responses. The mag did need to be modified to make it work. The two little tabs needed to be filed a fair bit to allow the mag latch to click in and hold it in place. It was nearly an hour of filing, checking, fitting, to get it right but it locks in perfectly now. Next we see how it feeds. Fingers crossed.

Good news. Thanks for sharing. Now go back out there and buy ANOTHER magazine (spares never hurt you) and give it the same trial and file-to-fit treatment. Now you are ready for attacking zombie does... ha ha ha ha

Enjoy the tinkering!

Cheers,
