so why do I do this to myself

just got another rimfire, only its a 32 short / long RF

its a falling block, tiny little action and in fair shape, the butt stock is a bit sketchy and will need some repairs.

now its sitting with the Stevens 25RF

I guess if I convert it to center fire 32 long is an option as its the same size or a little work with a reamer will allow 32 S&W long to work.

I had one in 32 rf then I reamed the barrel for 32s&w and use 27, cal ramset blanks centered in the 32 case. The yellow ones blew the case apart when trying to fire a 80gr bullet.

So I then made a new barrel for mine from a cut off cooey barrel. The 32 rim fire breech block works fine with 22 rim fire ammo. And milling the barrel is simple just 2 slots a milled out pocket and a tapped hole. I have the drawings made up.

I have another compete receiver as well I always wanted to make that one center-fire and go 25acp.

I have one of those I want to get lined for 22 RF. Maybe colour case hardening on the frame. So many projects, so little time. - dan

I have converted several to 32 S&W long. Shoots a 90gr LSWC WITH 2.0 grains of trailboss at 950fps. They are very accurate too.
The centerfire conversion is much easier on the model6 compared to the model 4. I’ve shot approximately 400 rounds out of mine and no issues yet.

Aren't there two versions of receivers? One made with laminated plate, the other cast?

well from my brief research there were 3 different models the original and then an improved model and then another improved model

I have not read enough yet, the one I have is 2nd or 3rd model and the receiver is a laminated construction

I have a No 4 in 32rf and Remington sent me a letter on it that it was made in 1905 . Never found ammo to fire it but you can order brass inserts that are reloadable for it. I am thinking the center fire route might work better

slugged the bore yesterday

.307, and really shallow grooves, but then I just grabbed a jacketed bullet pulled from a 30 Carbine round, so perhaps a soft lead slug will be better.

and doing a little research is it not an Improved Model 6 but is a later production 4###xx serial number range

so not an original model 6 (1901-03) but an new improved model 6 (1904-29) but not the Improved Model 6 (1929-33)

much more research is needed :(

editing to add - went out to the shop to confirm the serial number - 4044xx with what looks like a date code of OS which puts it as an October 1925 production

and after reading a bit about 32 colt long and the availability of brass I am leaning towards 32 S&W long or even short as candidates for conversion, easier to get the brass.

of the 2 Rem No6 rifles I have they are different but both made up of 2 side plates with pins holding them together.

I'm not sure if this helps with your research but my two are marked as followed.

PATENTED JULY 22.1902 (that's it, no other markings on the receiver)

the other receiver is marked

MODEL 6
REMINGTON ARMS - UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO.
REMINGTON WORKS ILION NEW YORK, U.S.A.
632 (serial number on opposite side)
