Does anyone have a model 7 in 223 that shoots well

mine shoots patterns rather than groups (2-3 inches @ 100 yds)

I have tried several kinds of hardball and reloads without luck

i thought the sling screw was at fault but removing it and the wood in the

channel only helped a bit

thanks

hello amphib

not too fast

screws are tight

i have tried various loads of blc2 , rl7 4198 and 4895

with no success

one last try before i rebarrel it

thanks

rebarrel would be the last resort. Try bedding it, free floating the tube. Seat a 50 or 55 grain bullet over some Hodgdon benchmark powder (I found this to be awesome in 223). Make sure the brass is sized to fit perfect in the chamber. If it still wont shoot, try a different scope. Maybe get it recrowned. Hornady amax 52 grain, or Nosler 50/55 grain ballistic tips should shoot well in a 1-12 twist

failing that, sell it or rebarrel. Ive yet to encounter a Remington 700 that wouldnt shoot. the Seven is so similar that I would expect great things as well

MY M-7s in .222 and .223 shot best with some pressure on the barrel--and you have to shoot quite slow--3 shot groups over 5-6 minutes and complete cool between groups.

There are many reloading tricks to try before re-barreling--and don't forget that it isn't a heavy barrel varmint rig--it is a light handy carrying rig.

Have a Model 7 SS 223. Loading 52 gr Amax with 21.5 gr of IMR 4198 and getting around 3250 fps. It will hold 1 moa and better but will open up to a little over an inch if shot fast, ie. 10 shot string. I was actually amazed how well the little sucker shot. Good luck with yours. I also have a Mod 7 243 that is acting like yours, haven't figured that one out yet.
