Why are are Remington Model 7 bolts so sloppy? My son has one in .260 and it sloppy, Ive checked several other Model 7s out in stores and they all seem the same?
Having said that, we love the rifle and are looking for another in 7mm-08.

Yes, but Im still wodering why the slop compared to the 700 and most other rifle actions?

Possibly due to the shortness of the rear bridge and a lot of bolt hanging out when back all the way... if that is the slop you are talking about.

Yes, that would be the slop when the the bolt is all the way back.Is there any way to tighten that up?
Lock up is tight.

No.

Attempts at taking that movement out would also cause binding when operating the bolt. That movement affects nothing in accuracy or strength...

As guntech mentioned-
The rear bride is shorter on an XP/600/660/XP-100R/Seven compared to a 700 S/A.

The bolt lug aft surface is flush w/ bolt handle cut in rear receiver ring.
700 bolt lug aft surface are 3/8" forward eliminating some slop.

If you want to slop a bolt in its raceway handle a Win 70 or Mauser of any manufacturer.
