Which one would you choose and why ? thinking of buying a 22-250 for wolf / coyote hunting right now .

I like the savage because of the accutrigger but Im not sure I want that heavy of a rifle if I need to shoot offhand.

Thoughts ?

I shoot better offhand with a heavy rifle myself. I don't like the look of completely camo'd rifles like those. They just look a bit cheesy covered bow to stern in camo, in my opinion anyways. The Savage is known to be accurate and the Remington light and handy. But have you considered anything else? Ruger has a grean and brown laminated stock on their new varmint rifle you might look at.

Im looking at other options too but nothing pricier as the ruger seems to be.

Anybody give the Remington 799 a try ? Looks fairly handy...not sure about the trigger though.

I played with the savage at the local gun store last year and was amazed how good it felt for me to bring up to my shoulder. It was better balanced than I thought it would be. I guess the shorter 22 inch barrel helps that. The rem and the ruger I cannot comment on as I have never held either one, but it is kind of a personal thing anyway and you are best to go and try them yourself to see which feels better. The Savage web site shows the weight to be 7 1/4 pounds, 3/4 pounds heavier than the model seven. The savage has a 1-9 twist and the rem. has a 1-9 1/4 twist. The ruger shows a 1-14 twist. The Savage has a detachable mag if that is important to you. I don't really see the advantage myself of a heavy barrel on a predator rifle, unless you will be using it for varmits too. I think it will be the the first shot or two that will count so any good shooting hunting style rifle should handle that. I ended up getting a good used model 700 in 22-250 for half the cost of a new gun and it shoots awesome, and saved enough that I an afford to get a good scope when I want to upgrade my existing one. No matter what you decide I hope it shoots straight and you have alot of fun with it. Good luck

Both are fine rifles. I prefer the Remington 700 for rifles but the Savages have proven themselves to be excellent rifles and tend to be lower cost than Remingtons. The Model Seven would be my choice for a lightweight woods rifle. However, a Savage Model 10 with a 20" barrel would also suit the bill quite nicely. Handle them both and see which one fits you best. Buy the one that feels most comfortable to you.
