I played with the savage at the local gun store last year and was amazed how good it felt for me to bring up to my shoulder. It was better balanced than I thought it would be. I guess the shorter 22 inch barrel helps that. The rem and the ruger I cannot comment on as I have never held either one, but it is kind of a personal thing anyway and you are best to go and try them yourself to see which feels better. The Savage web site shows the weight to be 7 1/4 pounds, 3/4 pounds heavier than the model seven. The savage has a 1-9 twist and the rem. has a 1-9 1/4 twist. The ruger shows a 1-14 twist. The Savage has a detachable mag if that is important to you. I don't really see the advantage myself of a heavy barrel on a predator rifle, unless you will be using it for varmits too. I think it will be the the first shot or two that will count so any good shooting hunting style rifle should handle that. I ended up getting a good used model 700 in 22-250 for half the cost of a new gun and it shoots awesome, and saved enough that I an afford to get a good scope when I want to upgrade my existing one. No matter what you decide I hope it shoots straight and you have alot of fun with it. Good luck
