Remington Model 700 - still worth it in 2024?

Worst quality rifle I've owned was and is my Rem 700. It is good now after replacing everything, bolt was bad, trigger bad, safety was horrifying, barrel questionable. My Rugers, both M77 and American, are way better. They haven't needed rebuilding. My 700 would have been made in the early 2000s and was a police heavy barrel version bought brand new.
I had an early 2000’s 700 mountain LSS that was a great shooter and no issues. Buddy picked up similar vintage, new at the time 700 Ti that had a crooked chamber. Crazy that they missed that in QC

New ones are pretty well made, picked 2 up in the last year, 700P in 300W and a 700 Long Range in 300W as well.
Pretty silly how accurate they are, everything is well done fit and finish wise, both 5R hammered barrels.
700P came with Timney Elite trigger, the Long Range has the Impact (non-adjustable). The Elite is very nice, the Impact is what you expect from production rifles, 4lbs, clean but not target grade.
As a fanboy, when I go into a gunshop I always if they have new 700s. Where did you get yours?

As long as Remington produces a 700 with the original enclosed extractor system, it will remain the strongest, safest 2 lug bolt action ever made. It is a superb action for a handloader.

To offer a counter opinion, what about Savage bolt actions? The plant has never shut down, and the engineers keep finding improvements. Several years ago, I suggested Savage hunting gun packages to two guys getting into deer hunting. They bought identical .300 WM rifles with synthetic stocks, mounted cheap scopes, and comfortable slings. One rifle shot a mulie that got into the Saskatchewan record book, and the other shot a mulie that just missed the cut-off. For the amount of shooting those guns got, they were a great bargain.
comparing a savage to a 700 that's a step backwards savage are everything you don't want in a rifle

You are more than welcome to your opinion. Read my full text and take it on board. There was nothing wrong with those Savages. They killed the deer the shooters fired at.

If your measure of quality is esthetics or a self-supporting positive reputation, go ahead. But the whole thread has been about which period of Model 700 to choose and which to avoid.
