Remington Model 700 XCR or sps

I have an XCR and it's certainly much nicer to handle. The Hogue grips really give you a nice feel on the rifle for a composite stock. I will say this for the TriNyte...the water simply does not sit on the action and barrell like you would normally see with stainless or blue. It's almost like water on a freshly waxed car or freshly oiled steel, it completely beads right up. It's great if you plan on hunting in fugly weather, but if you are a fair weather guy, not sure that the cost is justified. I do believe that the additional expense isn't just limited to the 'features' but rather the entire fit and finish seems nicer, though that may just be me. That being said, for around a thousand bucks NIB, you may very well be able to find something you like better, without a bunch of mods (a trigger job really is a must, to start with).

I saw a Remington 700 being advertised as a SPS but the Stock was camo. How would one know if it was an SPS or not. The barrel was on the bright side and the price was more that an SPS

Remington offers a "Buck Masters Special Edition" SPS with a camo stock for about $50 more than a standard SPS, so I would guess that was the rifle you saw. How much more was the rifle you saw?

I have a few 700 the XCR LRT in .223 is the best one for feel and finnish, bolt feels like it was in butter. very very smooth.

Scott: I think their price was $719 but will check it out again on Wednesday but it was probably the Buckmasters. The salesman was relying on the tag.

I was looking at rifles today, and the synthetic/blued SPS I looked at had some type of a dull matt finish. The salesman told me the SS SPS isn't even made of stainless steel, that it just has a silver coating. He said you have to buy the XCR to get the real deal. I'm looking at one, as well as a few other brands. Hopefully someone here can set the record straight.

an SPS Stainless is stainless...believe me, I've torn them down, polished and redone the beadblasting with finer beads.......salesmen usually know the least about the rifles....may as well ask the girl at the cashiers counter...there are actually guys who run around saying the blued SPS is also coated...it's just gets a coarse beadblast and blued.....

I have the limited edition camo. It's "named"; Remington model 700 SPS SS DM camo. It's a great looking rifle, shoots 1 MOA all day long with the cheapo remington core-lokt, and winchester power-point/silvertips. Only problem is, the camo finish seems to be rubbing off a little too fast on the main areas of wear. But then again, that only adds a little fun in getting a new stock when the time comes. :D
