I need help...A young fella brings a beautiful Remington Model 8 over to see if it's safe to shoot. He tells me he has some ammo, and produces Savage 250 Savage Ammo. He insists that ammo is what he has been using.Comments Please...I don't believe these calibres are interchangeable.

They're not. A .250 Savage would not chamber in a .25 Remington - the case is larger in diameter.
Any chance that the thing was converted? Don't know if that is even possible.

I'm not a gunsmith, but I can't imagine such a conversion for many reasons.
Pressure-wise the 25 Remington was I believe loaded to a much lower pressure than the 250 Savage.
Case dimension differences being what they are would mean a whole bunch of work, if even possible to the old Mod. 8.
I use a Mod. 8 in 35 Rem. and am very careful when I'm reloading for because of the action strength... or lack of.
It would be interesting for one of our ' resident ' gunsmiths to weigh in on this discussion..

There was nowhere on firearm that stated cal. Owner told me it was 25 Rem...I eyeballed the bore...looked like 25....The serial number started with 25....any chance they prefixed serial number with cal. I'll check further when I get firearm back in my hands. Thanks for input fellas. Doc

Caliber should be located here:

A conversion to anything else seems highly unlikely, but possible.

Serial numbers are serial, and have no bearing on caliber.

Conversion to .250 Savage would be bad as it operates at about 10000 psi higher than the .25 Remington.

Blast attack wins the TEDDY BEAR ...That's exactly where it said 25. Thanks for the help. ANY source for ammo or componants?

You're highly unlikely to find .25 Remington brass. However, .30 Remington can be found and .25 Remington dies can be ordered. Put an add on the EE for it and see what you get.
