Remington Model Seven or 700 SPS DM for a semi custom build?

I am looking to build a short action hunting rifle, leaning hard towards a 7mm-08 since I have a barrel already on hand, already threaded for a Remington action. So far the best prices I have found for an action are model Seven and 700 DM. Which way would you go?
I know the model Seven kind of limits my options as far as triggers and stocks go but it seems as though the DM ties my hands even worse. Are there any decent after market stocks that you can drop a 700 DM in other than a boyds?

The factor that would settle it for me is "how long is the mag box in the 7?" I hand load and want to be able to seat the slugs out far enough to touch the lands. If the model 7 mag box is too short I'd go with the model 700.

Also you can find lots of standard hinged floor plates on the EE or buy a new one from quite a few shops. However if every ounce is what matters to you then you probably want the slightly shorter model 7.

I'll take that bbl. if you change your mind. I have a couple 700 actions here for such a project.

Either would work. Do you want a magazine or floorplate?
I just had this model 7 put together. Was a 308 with a 18" barrel. I found a take off 308 barrel and a nice model 7 stock on the ee
Shoots very well.

If you get the dm you can always run a better mag system such as an aics compatible one or the hs precision style. On a hunting rifle the hs precision is my favourite. I'd run a 700 so you have some mag box to play with.

That's a nice set-up. :)

I just did the same only the other way around. Had an old ADL 243 here that was in very used condition. Had the bbl off'd and replaced with a 20" 308 bbl from a Model 660. Cut the forend a bit shorter for better proportion and refinished the stock. Topped it with a Leupold 1-4, but that may be replaced with a Redfield Revolution 2-7. it should actually be refinished with a nice matte finish like yours. Make a dandy little deer rifle for the ATV. I like it.

The mag box on a 700 SA and the m7 are exactly the same length.

That said if you are hung up on DM, the only m7 option I know of is a aics compatible unit from ptg.

Thanks.
That's the beauty of Remington's. Mix and match them all day long. Take off barrels are abundant and usually shoot pretty good too.

Just sell the barrel and buy a rem m7 or m700 in 7-08 and go hunting it will be cheaper ! RJ
