Hi all,I just got back from the Chilliwack gun show and got my son a remington mohawk 600 in .243.
So I got it home and wanted to give her a good cleaning but to my embrassment,I can't seem to figure out how to remove the bolt. Is it possible that the bolt does not come out?

THe bolt is removed by putting a flat object like a key in beside the rear of the bolt on the left side. push the bolt stop down and withdraw the bolt.

The bolt release is in a narrow channel just to the left of the bolt shroud. Take popsickle stick and trim one end to about 1/8" (or something similar) and depress the spring-loaded lever while at the same time slide the bold back.

I have an old one in 308 thats as new with the rib barrel.
Don't think it's ever been shot? Got it in a trade. It's a keeper as my son has claimed it.
These had a Remington safety recall i do believe. Make sure it's been done.
These have been known to go off with the safety on. If the recall work has been done i think they mark or stamp a V somwhere on the gun.

Anyone here of this Rem Mohawk recall?

The recall was on the trigger and bolt lock down.At one point you could have this done free through remington and a autherized dealer.not sure if its still ineffect. I had my 73 vintage .308 mohawk to the range today as always it shoot much better than I did.I went 11 for 20 on the 200 yd gong off hand.my best has been a 17 for 20.hope you enjoy your .243 :)

Last I heard Tactical Advantage in Edmonton(780-702-2945) was still an authorized repair dealer for the Rem 600 bolt lock mechanism recall. More info can be found on the Remington web site.

Here is some info on the recall, I bought a 600 a few years ago and wondered about it too but mine has the raised V on the trigger so it is good to go.

REMINGTON
MODEL 600, 660, MOHAWK 600, RIFLES

RECALL: The Remington Arms Company, Inc. announced today that under certain unusual circumstances on some of its centerfire bolt-action rifles, the safety selector and trigger could be manipulated in such a way that subsequently moving the selector to the fire position could result in accidental discharge. Remington firearms involved are Model 600, 660, and Mohawk 600 rifles manufactured prior to February 1975.

The difficulty can be corrected by installation of a new trigger assembly. In view of the potential safety hazard, the Company is recalling all of these guns produced prior to February 1975 for inspection and modification as required.

Serial numbers involved in the recall are as follows:

Model 600 #0001 to 131,552
Model 660 #0001 to 131,552
Model Mohawk 600 #6,200,000 to 6,899,999

You can tell if the rifle was repaired if there is a raised letter "V" on the left side of the trigger

There's a safety/recall notice on the Remington site:

My Mohawk is one of the later ones with the 'A' serial number...
