Hi all,

I've seen hints and indications here and there that there has been, at some point, a change to the Rem 700 Mtn SS stock.
I know that the Remington 700 Mountain rifles went from wood stocks (original) to the laminated stock, and then to a Bell and Carlson synthetic. What I'm wondering about is if there has been a slight modification to just the B&C synthetic stock design.
Several years ago when these Mtn SS rifles first came out I handled one in the store, and thought the grip was thick and chunky, whereas the previous Mtn models (wood and laminated) had a trim grip on them. I'm hoping they trimmed down the grip on the SS model, but I can't find anywhere that says that outright.

Hoping someone on here can enlighten me.

Thanks

I had an older Rem700 Mountain that came with the same blind mag stock that was used on the original Remington 700 Titanium. This variant was never listed on the Remington site.

With the more recent Mountain SS, I have encountered a couple of minor stock variations. They were still B&C stocks, but one had a skinny grip, the other was much more chunky.

the stock on the newer Mtn SS rifle is terrible. I loved the old 700 LSS Mtn laminate stock, and the McMillan Mtn rifle stock is a copy of this

I agree that the LSS stock shape is great. I didn't like the synthetic stock by B&C when the SS version first came out. I was hoping there has been a change to a "new" synthetic stock that is shaped a lot more like the old LSS model.

I bought one in 2015. It had the chunky wrist, which I actually really like. The B&C is a good, stiff stock. It was just way too heavy for my needs (32 oz. In short action).

I got a Wildcat, which is awesome. It finished at 19.8oz.

The rifle is still my do everything gun.
