Remington Nylon 66 semi-auto rifle

You are talking .22 short and .22 long?
Don't think you can buy .22 long anymore.
Haven't tried it but I doubt it will cycle the action on a 66. I'll give it a try next time I'm at the range. Cycles subsonic target ammo fine.

Go find a Reminton 550. It has the Williams patent floating chamber, just like the Colt Ace, invented by the same guy that designed the M1 Carbine.
It will cycle .22LR, .22 short, and even .22 short CB.
Tried mine at the range for just a few shots (too cold) after Christmas. The CB's cycled but twice they ejected fine but didn't pickup the new cartridge.
The action may have been a bit stiff from the cold oil. Everything else was flawless, right down to subsonic .22 target shorts.

Yes I think I am talking about .22 short,I thought there are 3 case lengths for the .22 cal rimfire,I was told by a friend that I could also use the other two sizes for my rifle thereby allowing alot more than 14 rounds in the tube magazine.I wonder how many rounds the tube mag will hold if it can use .22 short.

ther's a gallery special nylon 66 that's set up for 22 shorts- that's what they used back in the day when state fairs had shooting galleries- it's basically a whole different gun set up lighter- i've still got the listing for it- even uses a special stock- it also says the tube is plugged to hold 10 shorts-so there's no advantage -

just bought 1 of these for $10,says right on the top of the barrel where remington is stamped(notch in plastic stock at rear sight) "22lr only"

If the guys at this Remington Nylon rifles discussion board:

http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/nylonrifles

knew you bought one for only $10 they would go crazy as they cannot seem to find one in decent shape for under $250 US.There are people who own them that know what they are famous for and are always looking for more.

I've never fired a Nylon66, but someday I'm going to get one. I've been so fixated on my Ruger and Mossbergs that I just never bothered.

They are extremely light, reliable, almost no recoil, and never need cleaning because of the self lubricating properties of Nylon.

this 66 that i bought is beat to crap, the front part of the stock is busted(i cut the 10' of electrical tape off of it),front sight is missing, had a peice of string for a sling, lol, when i get a chance i will take a picture, frikin rifle shoots like a dream though and still accurate.1 of our service men went to a service call and bought 6 rifles for $100,russian double 12 ga,stevens 12 pump, rem nylon 66 22,mossberg target 22,cooey 22 repeater, cooey #84 20 ga,

actually, you made a really good deal- that looks like mostly front end damage and front sights and screws are fairly easy to come by- i'd be inclined to do some fiberglassing to repair that crack ( try some cold weld) - the reason the front sight was taken off was because of the scope- not everyone liked the "buck rodgers" look when it was on there- the scope alone has got to be worth what you paid for the rifle( bushnell varaible rimfire ) and takes a special almost non-existant hex key- it's a real odd-ball size, but one of the TORX common ones will fit- one of those multi-bit numbers that can tire has it in it- the ones that come on spcl for 10 bucks or so and have about 30-40 bits in it- when you get it off, dremel a slot in the screws so a slotted screwdriver will work and put it back on- i've had mine since 69-70 or so and the obnly problem i've ever had was the bottom of the rear sight popped off ( it's a small washer) and NEVER LOOSE THE EJECTOR- THAT'S THE BRASS PLATE THAT DROPS OFF WHEN YOU TAKE THE COVER OFF

Apperently many people don't know how to put back those Nylon rifles back together after cleaning (which they never need) so you always see their parts being sold on Ebay.

where the "other" people get into trouble is that they take the rifle into their version of a detail strip instead of just a quick barrel clean- however there is salvation even for these lost sheep on the internet- there's a sight with pictures - i've seen it- and there's people willing that have done it on this board as well that are willing to help out with questions
