So I bought my first shotgun (870 Express Super Mag) a month ago, and really liked it. So naturally I bought another one. I wanted a more tactical based shotty so I decided on the 870 Police. I did the research and the debate was between the 590A1 Mossberg the 870 Marine Mag, XCS and Police. I thought it through and the QC on the 870 Police won out. I guess Remington puts a little more effort into the Police mags than they do any other line. So for those of you that own both the Express based XCS and the Police mag (or any other tactical shotgun) let me know how they compare against each other, pros, cons etc. Basically anything you know, anything you've noticed or observed, espescially on the 870 Police. If you can relay this info I'd appreciate it.

I have a 870P, great gun. Make sure you oil the parked finish when you get it, makes it look a lot nicer and hold up better. I baked it in vaseline, then wiped it down, and lightly oiled with Break-Free. Looks great now, very black.

870 XCS Marine IS all cop-grade internals that are nickel plated. The exterior is the trynite coating instead of the nickel plating on the regular marine magnum, as their "research" shows it is more wear resistant and corrosion resistant.

Plus, its black, so for tactical, less shiny than the nickel look of the marine mag.

I have an XCS and I really like it. Especiialy with the hot-load 3" magnum rounds in 00 buck.

Vonschmoot,

I was under thew impression that both the Marine Magnum and the Marine Magnum XCS were both built on the Express platform. Does anyone have any solid, factual information as to whether or not the XCS and Marine Magnum are built on the Express platform? If the XCS is built on the Police Magnum platform, that would render it a superior shotty to the Police Mag given it has the Trinyte finish. So, yet another wrench thrown in there. Either way, lets me kill time looking up all this stuff.

Thanks

They're a little higher quality than an express, but not the same as a police model, some differences on the police model is metal/aluminum trigger group, longer mag spring (positive feed) better/stronger elevator spring, and hand fitted/inspected on a different part of the plant.
