Remington PSP Bullet Tips Are A "Mess"

After a stint of being away from shooting, and hunting with guns (due to archery, and bow hunting), my interest in guns has been renewed. I always found that Remington's Core-Lokt ammo shot well out of my .270, and it proved deadly for Nova Scotia's whitetails. I remember the PSP having exposed lead tips, with a nicely formed "rocket" shape. The 130 gr PSP ammo, that I bought recently, has sort of a "blob" of lead at the tip. Why is this, and will it effect the bullet in flight? FYI - I don't expect to get a shot at a deer, at over 150 yards. Thanks.

If it's new production ammo then it's likely that quality control has fallen since they are producing mom 24/7 now. I highly doubt it will have any effect. Shoot a box and see.

I think it is from the tips being hit and the lead squished down. Could be bad QC at the plant or rough handling in shipping (though that would have to be significantly rough to do that in the package).
At longer range it may effect the PoI but in my experience deformed tips wont change much within 100-200yds. Might open up the groups by an inch or two at those ranges but for hunting that isn't usually a big deal.

A mashed tip "might" affect the BC a small amount, but will not affect accuracy at all.

The base of the bullet is far more important for accuracy than is the tip.

Shoot away!!

Dave.

The last batch of Winchester ammo I got was much the same. Globs on the exposed tip, not mashed down from handling, definitely a factory done mess IMO. They still shot OK but out of a lever, it wasn't a precision affair to begin with.
