Below are some pics of my 2 x 45ACP 1911's

Likes for Remington R1
Classic style
Gun comes in a lockable plastic case that allows use of a trigger lock
Low profile sights
Super smooth slide cycle
Tight barrel to bushing tolerance
Build quality - fit and finish

Dislikes for Remington
Additional safety Mod 80 (will be removing it soon)

Likes for Ruger SR1911
Stainless steel
Build quality - fit only not finish (Clarify - nothing wrong with the finish if you like the stippled / sand blasted look)

Dislikes for Ruger SR1911
Gun comes in a cardboard pizza box
Chunky rear sight spoils classic profile view
Grip safety rattles and sounds tinny
Slide cycle has a hesitation as bushing encounters the barrel flare at the muzzle end
Stippled (looks sand blasted) finish on the stailless steel

Love the look of the remington.

don't forget the ruger comes with an extended magazine release as well... and frankly If I owned that remington with such a grossly misfit or misfigured grip safety I would throw up. also the ruger has extended safety, and the spring detent housing for safety/slide release is part of the casting for the frame for better durability.

ruger wins hands down for fit and finish... and the more "modern" look of the ruger is nicer to my eyes.

I see on your R1 you've added a skelatonized hammer and a beaver tail which isn't standard and one of the main reasons I went with the SR1911 over the R1s

nice writeup and great pics. Couple thoughts in blue below:
Dislikes for Ruger SR1911
Gun comes in a cardboard pizza box I did not need another plastic box, no use for a lockable plastic box. Guess that living in AZ has changed my ways - my guns are now either in safe, in holster with me or in range bag to/from range. I actually preferred not paying whatever marginal cost for box must be included in cost of other guns, I like the way Ruger prices for gun with minimal packaging.
Chunky rear sight spoils classic profile view Novak sight - I like the way they have slopes so no snags on clothing when concealed, compared to the block style on R1
Grip safety rattles and sounds tinny hmm, not mine, not after over 7000 rounds
Slide cycle has a hesitation as bushing encounters the barrel flare at the muzzle end have not noticed on mine
Stippled (looks sand blasted) finish on the stailless steel one of many features that I liked when comparing before my purchase on 3May2011

Nice guns both of them.
I am waiting for my SR1911 and think I might order a R1 enhanced as well.
Cant have to many guns can you?:ar15:

???

January handloader magazine said

The R1 produced better grouping then the SR1911 by almost a half an inch. They tested with various ammo weights and style, and averaged the group results. They tested @25 yards, again clamped in a Ransom Rest to rule out any human factor.

They compaired the R1 / SR1911 results to there testing of 3 Springfields - the GI1911A1, Loaded 1911A1, Trophy Match, and the S&W 1911 - the R1 outgrouped them all!

They also field stripped the weapons, after testing - both pistols did not show any excessive wear, and frame slide fit was rated exceptional.

Seems to be the Remington is a better buy the then SR1911. They stated the R1 is on par with many custom guns.

If you actually read the article they tested an SR1911 (retail $750) against an R1 ENHANCED (retail $920) so is the 1/2" on a bench rest worth the extra $200 to me? Nope. Plus I personally like the look of stainless and the Ruger will still shoot better than me plus it shoots better than almost every other gun you mentioned in the test except the SA Trophy Match which beat it by .05" (5 hundredths of an inch)

What size of groups are they getting @ 25yds ??

All number is in inches

The Remington R1 Enhanced = 1.49
SR 1911 =1.94

Older Data (from another testing they did from a few months back - it was listed in the article for comparison

Springfield Armory GI 1911A1 = 3.50
Springfield Armory Loaded 1911A1 = 2.89
Springfield Armory Trophy Match 1.89
Smith & Wesson SW1911 = 2.01

Grip Safety

Ok so I agree the Wilson Combat grip safety I added is not the best fitting and some Nutters have described it as " and frankly If I owned that remington with such a grossly misfit or misfigured grip safety I would throw up" and another said "it looks goofy"

BUT incredibly it is the most comfortable grip safety I have ever shot with - go figure!
