Remington R1 Enhanced Review

I really like his videos--he's a very good shot too. I'd love to have his setup!

He must have new video gear--the picture quality was exceptional.

Hickok's videos are available in 1080 at 60fps. My internet sucks donkey parts...so I stick to 480p to keep the ISP somewhat happy.

I have the standard R1 and I must say it's quite nice for the price I got it. The Enhanced version looks like it's more polished...as it should be I suppose. Great little show and tell, as always!

Even when he misses if you're watching the misses and hits all generally form a pretty nice group size for the distance he's shooting. The gong and animals out on the hill are something like 40 to 50 yards away as well from what I've read. And when he does miss a lot it's a loaner gun, not one of his own.

I found it interesting what he noted about the big sofa like thumb safety and the issue he has with the grip safety if he tries to ride the safety as suggested by so many 1911 shooters. I have the same issue with the oversize safeties on my own 1911's.

The one I have with the small military style safety isn't an issue because it's neatly rounded and just fits into the soft tissue between the knuckle and joint on my thumb. As a result I carved down the oversize canoe paddle like safety on another of my 1911's and now I find it's far more comfy to hold and shoot instead of trying to park my thumb where it doesn't fit.

So maybe it's only us 1911'ers with big hands but I simply don't see the appeal to the oversize safety or slide release. In particular since a good safety should be there where it can be easily disengaged but not so big and paddle like that it can be disengaged too easily when you don't want it to be disengaged.
