I am going to move from being committed to a 9MM relationship and take the plunge and buy a 1911. I have seen, held and like the R1 enhanced. However, before I spend my hard earned moola, I thought I would ask fellow CGNers for their comments, pros/cons or alternatives. Any info would be appreciated.

I have a Remington R1 and a Ruger SR1911 and guess what I prefer the R1. Go for the R1 you wont be sorry. Get the stainless if you can but that won't be the enhanced version.
Reliable Gun has stock at a good price.

I was after a SR1911 to help build my Ruger collection (SR9 and GP100), but paying $200 more then new kinda bugged me. I held a blued R1 at a local gun show (awful finish for a new gun), and saw a SS one from a supporting dealer ($30 less then the blued one). Ordered it. Havent shot it yet (waiting on reg cert), but a very solid, well balanced gun. Way more then I expected!

Bought one last Friday, just waiting for the transfer to go through, will post some pics when I get it.

I'm new to shooting, and it's going to be my first pistol. I've shot my friend's Glock a few times, and loved it, but I didn't have the money for one, so I figured I'd get a Norc 1911A1 Police Model for dirt cheap. I have an AR I plink away with (I cheap out and use a CMMG .22LR Conversion) mostly, and figured I probably won't shoot the pistol much, so it couldn't hurt to go .45 over 9mm (haha, famous last words, "I won't shoot it that much").

So, anyway, I went over to Reliable to pick out a Norc, and when placed side-by-side with the Remington, I was sold on the latter. I've got two other Norcs (AR and the M14), so no comlpaints on Norcs, but for some reason, I caved on the R1E. It just felt so much more refined, no rattles, really clean finish, and it seemed to have all the bells and whistles, and it was a lot more, but affordable at the moment. With ARs and M14s, it would have cost me thousands more for a name-brand one so I got the Norcs, both great rifles with no issues.

Well, let's see later on this week when I pick it up and shoot it.

I own the R1 Enhanced and I've been more than happy with it. Mind you I've not seen or shot a whole lot of 1911s but the R1 is definately worth it in my eyes. Fit and finish is great for the price IMO plus, you're not paying an extra X00$ for a brand name.

R1 1911

I was at the range today with two 1911s - a Colt Series '70 Gold Cup and an R1 1911.
I ran some IPSC 'draw & fire' exercises with both, weak, handed, 'El Presidente' drills, etc.
I spent some time on a duelling tree at 15 yds, the 10" x 12" 50 yd gong and the 18" x 24" 100 yd gong. I switched back and forth between guns; 100 rds total.

The gongs were shot in single draw & fire, and if I miss, I immediately fire again. I take as long as necessary to make hits. This makes hits on closer, larger targets duck soup.

While the R1 can't compare with the Gold Cup for trigger pull, I wouldn't feel disadvantaged to own just the Remington. Would I buy another? Yes, probably the enhanced version.

as I've said before on previous threads, you can't beat the R1 for function, price and reliability. Fit and finish IMHO belie a more expensive pistol. I find for another $100 or so over the norc, why bother with a norinco? Compared to the springfield operator i used to own, there wasnt too much difference other than perhaps trigger pull. swap out the handgrips for textured rubber hogue grips and youre laughing. Big ####off white dot sights for those of us who dont see as well as they used to...much better than thin black on black.

where did you pick up the compensator for it?[/QUOTE]

The inventor / manufacturer is called Karl Lippard and his website is http://www.karllippard.com/search.php (if the page does not list all the 1911 parts use the "VIEW GUNS BY CATEGORY" drop down box and select "1911A2Parts")

Note, he does not call it a compensator but a "Nose Piece" since there are no ports for the gas to escape through.

He also sells on Ebay but does not ship to Canada. I suggest you do as I did, call him at the office and talk to him, he is a very interesting man with enormous knowledge of firearms - not just 1911's.

I literally begged him to ship me one and now he understands the process of shipping under $100 to Canada with USPS First Class Mail International.

PM me if you need anything else.

R1 1911

I like the 'double diamond' grips that came on my gun - sharp checkering and great looking grain pattern. Better than the grips on my Gold Cup with the Colt logo medallion.

My one minor ##### with the R1 is the billboard sized 'REMINGTON' on the slide.
It could have been marked a little more discreetly, IMHO.

I love my Rem R1 blued Gi. 100% reliable good shooter fit and finish of mine is by far better than tne Para that sat next to it in the case. Good luck
