I went to the range today and my buddy let me try his new Remington XR-100 Rangemaster in 22-250. A very nice rifle but I had a problem. I had loaded a round, and placed the safety on and had the barrel pointed downrange. When I took the safety off, the rifle fired. I tried to duplicate this again with an already fired shell, but the only way I could get it to do it was if I had my finger resting 'oh so gently' on the trigger as I took the safety off. The trigger was set at about 31/2 to 33/4 lb.
So, has anyone else done this or is this a common thing? I know I should not have my finger on the trigger when moving the safety to off, but with this thumbhole stock, my finger just automatically seems to fit in the trigger guard. I really can't even feel any trigger pressure and it fires when moving off safety! Is this just me? Do I have the problem or is this an overly sensitive safety or is it just plain unsafe? Help me out as up to this point I was considering buying one for myself.
