Remington Sluggers slugs through Remington rifled barrel ...anyone done it?

I'm a little confused, just finished reading this, but then read the box of 2 3/4" Slugger slugs I got and it says not to.
So has anybody got any experience with this firsthand?
The article shows excellent groupings, and I'm not really interested in buying sabots. It also mentions that the barrel stayed fairly clean.
If I don't get too many answers, I may be forced to buy a 20" smoothbore barrel with rifle sights and improved choke and do a comparison. :d
 
Challengers say for either or and they are a lead slug so I don't see why not. Worth the test to shoot 5 and see if you get a good group and no key holing.
 
I fired several through a rifled 20 bore 870. (20 gauge Slugger slugs) Initial accuracy was good but after 15 shots or so the leading got so bad the slugs would not group at all. It was a job to get the lead out of the bore also. They do work if you sight in, clean the lead and only shoot a few at your intended target. Continuous shooting will cause severe accuracy loss until the barrel is cleaned.

Yes you can shot lead rifled slugs threw a rifle barrel.but the lead will fill the groves pretty quickly. And it us a job scrubbing it clean again..you can buy federal lead Sabots for sale reasonable price.
 
Thanks guys. I picked up a bunch of Slugger slugs for $5.50 per box a few weeks ago, so would rather use it than sabots. From reading (too much) it appears that a saturated 10 Guage copper brush with Hoppes no 9 or your lead remover of choice does a pretty good job on the lead build up.
 
I had some leading after doing a 25-round slug test in my gun, which included some sluggers, challengers, and brenneke's. The boiling water trick worked very well to remove the lead. I taped over the end of my barrels and stood it up against a piece of foam on the floor, poured boiling water down both bores until they were full, and let it sit for a couple of minutes. The theory is that the differing expansion of the metals when warmed will help loosen the lead. I dumped out the water, went at it with a brush, and then cleaned and oiled it like normal. It worked well.
 
I don't get this rifled slugs through a rifled barrel thing.

Only two cases for it imo.
- just because to try
- you have no other option

IMO rifled SG barrels are for Sabots only to extend accuracy at range.

Very specific barrel for a very specific use.
