I was told the REMINGTON SPR 18 had STEYR barrels-any truth to this?
They look rather interesting with the spiral barrel, don't know how they shoot.Although Baikal historically doesn't have a great reputation for fit and finish, the one I saw didn't look bad, especially when you consider its low end price range.I'd be interested how an unbiased review rates them , in terms of accuracy, function ,reliability and workmanship

the baikal rifles seem to have birch stocks-the Remington ones have walnut. Ellwood epps have couple of Baikals in .222 reduced to $199

The Remington SPR 18 seems to be higher quality than the regular Baikal [walnut vs birch stock]Is this the only diference or is the general fit, finish and function also better?[the trigger on the Baikal has been criticised as being too heavy]

Has nothing to do with branding.
Depending on the importer's required specifications for a particular order/batch, the Baikal factory will use:

Walnut, Beech or Birch for the stock
Checkered or uncheckered
Sling swivels or without
etc. etc.

Find one that you like (Baikal IZH-18MH or Remington SPR-18) and go for it.

If you would like something fancy, here is one for you :)
