bump with an interesting video of some crazy Russian jamming one of these full of mud, water and ice and firing it without eye or ear protection :runaway:

LeBaron is selling these for $530, so thats $477 with club card discount. before i call in my order, does anyone know if theres a cheaper source for these in Canada? or has any new info come to light on these?

aside from not being able to swap out barrels it seems to me that these are a better deal now than the 11-87.

He is not Russian. He is Canadian hunter. This video was done in Quebec.

$530 (minus the corporate discount) is the lowest I have seen anywhere.

I bought the Remington version this spring.. was a little odd as the box says 'Remington' on one side and 'Baikal' on the other, ok no biggie I thought.. So I pull the gun out of the box and the shotgun itself is badged 'Remington' on one side and 'Baikal' on the other side!

I have a few complaints about the fit and finish (it shows it's Russian pedigree), but it is otherwise fine.

got mine Thursday but just had a chance to open it (pretty fast ship from LeBaron, got it in 3 days).

this gun is definitely not for everyone. first off, it doesnt look too bad in all of the Remington catalog photos. when the gun is in your hands, however, you notice that nearly every single surface on the gun is finished completely differently. they didnt even grind/sand the rivets in the receiver flush so they stick out a little (like a bubba'd 870 ejector). the alum mag cap is brown, the receiver looks like black plastic (but is some sortof pebbly black semi-gloss painted aluminum), and the barrel is a flat dark grey that looks almost parkerized and is very dull. at least they used the same plastic for the forend and stock :)
several parts like the shell lifter have some very visible tooling marks on them.

so appearance-wise, thats the BAD.

havent had a chance to fire it yet, and i am taking care of some kids over the weekend so i dont think ill be able to till next week, but i took the thing apart when cleaning out all the cosmoline and the actual action seems very beefy and robust.

really as long as it functions reliably and goes bang every time i pull the trigger (after break-in), i dont care what it looks like. in a year itll be all banged and scratched up anyway. just keep in mind that this gun is not for everyone: someone with any expectation of 'fit and finish' will be sorely disappointed in the SPR 453. thankfully in a gun like this that i intend to drag through the muck and abuse, this is actually somewhat of an advantage -- since i wont feel bad doing it.

Sounds like the perfect candidate for a home grown paint job. I saw one at a local shop and while it was not beautiful, it looked not too bad. I thought I might pick one up myself for ducks, geese and turkeys. Is there different barrel length options available from LeBarons?
