Remington SPS Stainless Finish

Had a look at the Remington SPS Stainless...the finish is very rough, not like my other Remington stainless rifle. Can the gun be finished so it is smoother or am I stuck with the rough finish?

Just not very pretty, but I guess that is how they are cutting costs.

Maybe bring it to a gunsmith who has a bead blast system.

Perhaps you could wet-sand with 220 then 320 sandpaper(emory) to smooth things up a bit then get it bead blasted.

Stainless is a breeze to finish alter as there is no finish coating required like blueing or parkerizing. Bead blasting would be very cheap, and provide an even finish quickly.

Generally we blast all stainless parts and receivers, to get the porous finish for our Arma-Coat finishes to bind too, The SPS guns usually have a skimpy finish, but excellent guns as I have a couple that we have refinished, and they rock. Your alternatives look like you would have to polish the metal to lose the rough finish or go to a clear coat finish which will make it smooth and protect it from crud and oxidization.Pm if you would like more info on fixing the SPS finish.
