I am looking at a remington 700 SPS Varmint in 308, so basically I can shoot everything from groundhogs to moose with it. The cheap stock has been replaced with a HS precision stock, it has a harris bipod, and a Bushnell elite 7-21x40 for $900(the guy mentioned the scope rings need replacing). Here are some pics the seller sent me, the last pic you can see that the bolt has a bit of rust on it, that's the only part that's rusted. Is this a good deal?

That is a really good deal..That scope alone is a nice scope worth some good money, the stock is valuable, the bipod is very nice.. Personally I would jump on that deal! (If you dont feel free to hook me up with the seller!)

On the HS website the stock is $400, i have seen the scope new from $400-550, the gun new is $600-650, and bipod $50-75. I thought it was a good deal, but don't really know my guns that well. Sry I think I better jump on this one myself.

If I buy this gun the seller said I better change the scope rings, so what rings should I get, I don't want to pay over $50, I will be doing some long range shooting out to 600 yards, so I want the scope to hold zero. I was thinking weavers quad locks they are made of aircraft aluminum and at a good price. What would you guys recommend?

Rust on the bolt. That is a fairly new rifle. I have one in 308 and not a spot of rust on it. I would be concerned as to why it is rusting and the condition of the barrel.

That sorta raises some flags. The scope used (unseen)...$300, the Bipod used...$30, the stock...used $250. $600 or so. Rifle for $300 - $400.

Not a bad deal. Again, the rifle is unseen, and there is already rust. If there is damage or the barrel is pitted, then you are going to lose money on the deal.

Another question, why do you have to replace the rings? They look ok.

I asked him if there was any rust on the barrel and action, he said no, the inside and outside of the barrel are perfect. The only rust is on the bolt for some reason, seems like a weird place for rust. The guy said the scope rings need replacing, so he brought the price down to $900. Maybe the rings are cheaply made, could be that the bolts are stripped, I will have to ask him about that.

So I bought the gun, the guy was originally asking $1100 neg, I got it for $875.
I need to get scope rings for it which will probably be Weaver Quad locks and the bases were the wrong ones, so they need changing also. My question is what ammunition should I use for hunting deer?, rate of twist of barrel is 1:12.
I am thinking about something with a ballistic tip for long range hunting.
