I'm looking at picking up a Remington SPS with a Bushnell 3200 3-9x scope from a coworker. The rifle has been used for hunting over the past few years.

Assuming it's in good condition, what would be a reasonable price for it? A link to the rifle (new) is available below. The rifle is being sold because he's getting a new rifle as a reward for finishing his PHd.

What are some things to look for? What would be a fair price to offer/pay for it? What should I examine when I get a chance to get my hands on it?

Don't worry too much about it they are good guns. I put over 600 rounds through mine and it shoots 1/2'' groups all day long. As for the price I would offer him 600 with the scope. I paid mine 750 and if I remember right the scope is worth new around 350 so it should be fair

Good to know. Anyone else opinion on the price? Gun retails for $600 new, the scope around $300 (before any deals).

I have a stainless SPS, they are a base model 700, have a rough non reflective finish. Good work horse rifle. Not for guys who want shiny guns with wooden stocks. Is the one you're looking at SS or blue/matte? What kind of rings?

Not sure on the rings, but the rifle has a black synthetic stock, with a black matte finish on the barrel. My coworkers does mention the rings cost $50 though, I'm not sure what a decent set of rings would go for.

I just opened my Cabelas Canada catologue, fall 2010, and the plain black/blue model is $580, $600 for 300 wsm. Then there's a $40 mail in rebate until dec 31. a bushnell 3200 3-9x40 multi x reticle is $230. Leupy rings, $35 bases $28. So You could have it new right now for $833 after rebate. Unless I'm pricing the wrong scope, I'd say not more than $500, otherwise you might as well buy new IMO

Great to hear this pricing. Any others wish to join in? What should I be looking for in the rifle? Corrosion on/in the barrel and action, what else?

That pricing is cheepppppppp. As new condition books for 400 no scope or rings at the gun shops.Epps just sold two for 525 and the gun shop in new brunswick has two listed now for 495. Again just the gun.
650 with the scope and rings would be a good deal any less I would be an excellent price.
But this is just one man's opinion

So, the general consensus I'm seeing is for a price around $550.

He's mentioned he's thinking $650 with 2 boxes of shells.
